Job Description SummaryThe Nursing Assistant II assists in
providing direct patient care throughout nursing areas, and is
responsible for the safe transport of patients via wheelchair or
stretcher, and other devices. The NA II performs basic care tasks
as delegated by the RN, and is responsible for appropriate
documentation of services. Provides the services of a Patient
Observer (Sitter) for any patient on a patient care until who has
been assessed to require constant observation in order to maximize
his/her safety. The NA II needs to understand the patient's
condition to ensure their care and safety. In addition to other
tasks, the NA II performs phlebotomy (venipuncture, finger stick
and heel stick) according to established procedure of South Shore
Hospital. Must successfully perform 50-100 draws to be deemed
competent by a designated phlebotomist trainer. Once deemed
competent the NA II shall continue to perform phlebotomy duties on
a consistent basis (typically on a daily basis), and successfully
complete an annual competency assessment.Job Description1 - Patient

identifiers prior to the start of any procedure. - - - b -
*Understands individual role/responsibilities in the event of
hospital codes and emergency preparedness. - - - c - *Complies with
the current CDC hand hygiene guidelines through proper handwashing.
- Adheres to universal precautions, makes appropriate use of
personal protective equipment at all times and appropriately
disposes of hazardous materials. - Maintains awareness of MSDS
sheets and how to access. - - d - Demonstrates awareness of each
patient's fall risk and the appropriate use of safety devices and
identified safety interventions. - - e - Conducts patient safety
rounds utilizing principles of SBAR, follows chain of command to
communicate any identified patient or staff safety risks. - - f -
Demonstrates proper body mechanics for all functions and use of
patient lifts as needed. -4 - Technology - Utilizes technological
solutions to work processes and practices. - - a - Utilizes
software applications required by department and unit standards. -

PreferredHigh School Diploma/GED preferred.Minimum Work
ExperiencePrevious Nursing Assistant or equivalent experience
preferred.Required Classes/Skills -BLS - Basic Life SupportRequired
additional Knowledge, and AbilitiesKnowledge of basic medical
terminology.Basic computer knowledge.Ability to communicate
effectively and document information accurately.Ability to deal
efficiently and effectively with a wide variety of individuals.
